Collection of what has to be done before the next release:

• merge the big refactoring branch !10, therefore
  • consider #23
• apply clang tidy #24
• rename and clean up #14
• fix lifetime issues #3 and #13

Not sure if having the milestone is enough, or if we want this issue to tick things off.
